Map presentation:

The Passage is a hybrid, water-oriented map where both players are separated by a large river, connected only by a narrow shallow crossing : “the passage.”
The map features abundant deep fish and other resources, often leading to long, strategic games. Success here depends on a strong build order and solid early-game execution, making it a great map to improve multitasking and decision-making. Depending on your civilization and playstyle, you can choose to prioritize water or land control early on.

General Tips:

  • Practice efficient Dark Age execution and stick to a reliable build order.

  • Avoid getting housed early, your unit production will be quick.

  • Keep your Town Center working at all times, no idle time!

  • Build fishing ships early; they are critical for a strong economy.

  • Prioritize placing an efficient lumber camp as wood is your most valuable resource.

  • Don’t hesitate to build a defensive tower in Feudal Age—saving 200 stone while dying is pointless.

  • Upon reaching Feudal Age, reduce your food villagers and shift to wood to support military production.

  • Always keep your wood economy active and spend it wisely.

  • Prioritize a land-oriented strategy early on.

If you’re planning a land attack:

  • Build your production buildings forward before your opponent walls off the shallow crossing.

  • Escort your forward villager with a scout to ensure safe passage.

If you focused on land early and lost water control:

  • You can build new docks at the opposite end of your base, directly across from your opponent’s docks.

  • This “dock switch” is often most effective while transitioning to Castle Age.

Recommended Build Orders:

For Lower-Level Players:

For Mid to High-Level Players:

I recommend the land focused strategies early on for a easier success.
