Black forest is a closed map which starts in explored visibility. This gives you early awarness of the map, allowing you to decide on a strategy very quickly. Games on Black forest often go into the late game. Compared to open maps, Blackforest features more powerful and expensive units due to the slower and more strategic pace of the game and especially a lot of siege as there is only one opening to your opponent.

Don’t wall the gap too early as it will slow down your early build order, do it after you lured both boars so you can focus on this task better. If you are high level you can wall right away as forward as possible to gain as much space as possible, in that case you send 2 villagers with loom + the scout
Make double palissades when you wall early on, and no gate !!!
Learn and practice a solid Fast Castle build order or a good fast feudal age aggression build order
There is sometimes a lake but only use it to fish boom if you are a high level player, otherwise it will slow you down too much, even myself I consider not using it in most games.
Check the fish boom guide if it’s recommended for you
If opponent rushes you, just rewall behind more and more where he can’t reach your villagers (with stone walls if possible)
Choose a civilization with strong economic bonuses and good late-game potential, such as Bohemians, Turks, Portuguese, Bengalis, Britons…
Think ahead about your late-game army composition, especially based on the civ matchup.
Optimize your Dark Age efficiency as it’s easy on this map.
Prioritize economic upgrades early as this is a macro-focused map!
Aim to get a castle close to the opening before reaching the Imperial Age in most games.
You can focus on going to the imperial age quickly if you see a castle you can destroy with trebuchets.
Make outposts on the middle woodline in imperial to see any forest-cut from your opponent
Don’t forget to continue villager production at the start of Imperial Age, even while microing your army.
Focus on building a strong, steady push in the late game, army control is key.
Cut the forest with onagers to make a way to your opponent if he fortified the main gap a lot.
