A Treb War is often game-deciding, so it’s really important to know how to approach it.

What’s a Treb War?

A Treb War happens when you and your opponent have castles close to each other, and both players will try to destroy each other’s castle using trebuchets.

How to Win a Treb War?

There are many factors that can give you the advantage in a Treb War:

  1. Have Your Castle on a Hill
A castle on a hill makes it stonger!

  2. Build Multiple Castles for Multiple Treb Production
Having more castles means you can produce more trebuchets.

  3. Get to the Imperial Age Faster than your opponent
Reaching Imperial Age quickly will allow you attack his castle first

  4. Upgrade Your Castle’s Attack with Blacksmith Archer Upgrades
Upgrade your castle’s attack through the blacksmith’s archer upgrades to improve its damage output.

  5. Upgrade Your Castle’s HP with Masonry and Imperial Age Tech
On your way to Imperial Age, research Masonry at the University to increase your castle’s HP. In Imperial Age, research architecture at the university and Hoardings (in the castle after making a few trebs).

  6. Get Bombard Cannons as Fast as Possible
If your civilization has Bombard Cannons, research Chemistry immediately when reaching Imperial Age to unlock them.

  7. Have Villagers Near the Castle to Repair
Keep villagers nearby to repair your castle and trebuchets when they’re under fire.

  8. Have Stone in the Bank
Make sure you have stone in your bank (or buy it if needed) to repair your castle.

  9. Wall Your Trebs if He Has Melee Units
If your opponent has melee units, wall your trebuchets for protection.

  10. Research Siege Engineers When You Have the Resources
Research Siege Engineers when you have the resources to improve your siege range and damage, though it’s not the highest priority.

When Are Treb Wars Most Likely to Happen, and When Should You Try for Them?

Treb Wars are likely to happen when you or your opponent place an offensive castle close to your opponent’s base. Castles are powerful, so if you get the chance to place one near your opponent’s economy, do it! Use your map control to place it forward, while following the rules above to win the Treb War that follows. You’re more likely to win a Treb War if you’re playing cavalry units, as this allows you to potentially snipe enemy trebs or raid your opponent’s economy while they focus on defending their siege.
